Zone 9-10

Hoya is called wax-plant because of the fleshy, thick leaves and waxy flowers. The hoya vine's foliage in this photo is variegated.   Hoyas have a wide range native to India, Australia, Borneo, Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Guinea, the Philippines, Samoa, Singapore and Thailand

Hoya can be tropical or sub-tropical plants.  Hoya can be either terrestrial or epiphytic.  Hoya can be a shrub or a vine.  We know Hoya as a sprawling vine that can grow quite large. The flowers are waxy and last a long time. Flowers are seen in spring and summer and come from old flower spurs, so, never cut them off

Often seen in hanging baskets, but given a place to run or cover, Hoya is a good vine in lower light conditions, or outdoors, high broken shade is best

Use a fibrous soil with peat moss or use sphagnum moss in your hanging basket. Make certain no nematodes are present in your mix

One trick for improved flowering is to use minimum possible water during the cool months. Water very lightly until after flowering. In warm months after blooming, provide good water and fertilize monthly during growth periods
